Safety and Health Statement
In recognition of the fact that no fatality,
injury or disease is acceptable, the Minerals
Council of Australia in 1996 adopted a leadership
role on safety and health within the Australian
minerals industry. The Council made safety and
health its top priority and put forward the following
statement.
Personal Commitment
Acknowledging the Minerals Council of Australia's
Safety and Health statement and as a signatory
to this document I personally commit to contributing to the
improvement of the safety and health performance
of the Australian minerals industry by:
Demonstrating strong personal safety and
health leadership
Showing zero tolerance to unsafe acts and
conditions; and
Promoting a culture of an injury-free workplace.
Safety and Health Vision
An Australian minerals industry free of fatalities,
injuries and diseases.
Safety Awareness
The state of mine where we are constantly
aware of the possibility of injury and act accordingly
at all times. (Adapted by Dr Neil Gorge, circa
1939)
Safety and
Health Beliefs
All fatalities, injuries and diseases are
preventable.
No task is so important that it cannot
be done safety
All hazards can be identified and their
risks managed
Everyone has a personal responsibility
for the safety and health
of themselves and others.
Safety and health performance can always
improve
