Research and development plays a vital role in all facets of coal mining and use. An active and long-term commitment to research and development by both industry and government has ensured that Australian coal producers are amongst the most competitive, efficient and environmentally advanced in the world.
The Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP)
Australian black coal producers contribute to a program of research that is conducted for the benefit of the coal mining industry. Coal producers are committed spending 5 cents per tonne of coal mined to fund the Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP).
ACARP's mission is to research, develop and demonstrate technologies that lead to the safe, sustainable production and utilisation of coal. ACARP supports those projects that enjoy industry-wide support and involvement. They fall within the following broad areas:
- Greenhouse Gas Mitigation
- Safety & Occupational Health
- Environment & Rehabilitation of Mined Land
- Community Concerns & Land Access
- Cost of Production
- Technical Support for Marketing Australian Coals
